Mondays

Coffee and Chat
This group takes place from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Brighouse Rest Centre. There is no need to book, you can just turn up to this informal setting for a coffee and chat as well as the opportunity to enjoy games and activities. There is a £2 per person charge. This month we have guest speaker Samantha joining us from Wiltshire Farm Foods. Samantha will be talking through the service on offer and hopefully bringing some samples along for us to enjoy.

Wednesdays

The Breakfast Group
This group runs from 10am to 12noon at 7 Southgate, Halifax HX1 1DL. If you wish you can join us before 10.30am to order a breakfast sandwich before joining the group of the week at 11am. There is a charge of £5 for this. Alternatively, you can join us at 11am to enjoy the week’s session. Details of the different sessions are below.

3rd June: Technology Clinic.
The Technology Clinic runs from 10am to 12noon. Slots of 15 to 30 mins are available to book 15 or 30 mins. Luke can offer 1-1 support tailored to whatever you need. Whether you need help with a specific technology problem, need help with accessibility settings or want to explore alternative solutions we will do our best to help.

24th June: Focus Group.
This month Erica Ward is coming along to give a clear explanation of the disabled bus pass process and answer any questions you may have. Erica is also able to help with applications on the day so if you want to apply for the first time, renew or replace your pass, please come along to this session.

Knit and Natter
No matter what your skill level, you are welcome to bring along your latest knitting or crochet project to this group. Taking place within our social engagement cafe, you can enjoy a nice hot drink and a natter.

EnergEyes
This is a weekly fitness group that will focus on core strength, stretching and balance. The group will take place at Queens Sports Club, Moorlands View, HX1 2XQ for an hour from 1.30pm. There is a £5 charge per person to join the group. Please contact the office for more information and to book your place.

Coffee and Chat
This group runs every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm at our centre. Whether you enjoy a game of bingo, like the challenge of a quiz or fancy a catch up with some friendly faces this is the group for you. There is a charge of £2 per person. This month we are very lucky to have two guest speakers joining us at this group.

On Wednesday 3 June we have Samantha from Wiltshire Farm Foods coming along to discuss the service they offer and maybe bring along some samples…

Thursdays

SocialEyes
This group is all about experiences and trying something different. Based at our centre, the group runs every Thursday from 10.30am to 2pm. Details of the upcoming June sessions follow. Please note that booking is essential for this group and there is a £10 per person charge.

4th June: Memoirs of a TV Actor
This week we will be joined by Derry Jordan who will be coming along to talk about his previous roles as an actor. Derry’s roles include “Tommy” from All Creatures Great and Small and “Tim Russell” in Coronation Street. This is bound to deliver an interesting insight into behind the scenes on some of our favourite programmes.

11th June: Volunteers Week
Yes, we know Volunteers Week was last week, but our volunteers are so special we wanted to extend our celebrations. Come along to this session for lots of fun as we get to know our volunteers better and thank them for all their hard work.

18th June: Tie Dye Bags
You can never have enough bags so why not add another to your collection and join us as we get creative designing our own tie dye bags. You will be the envy of all your friends and family with this unique creation.

25th June: Shibden Park Treasure Trail
Join us on an adventure as creative clues have you exploring every nook and cranny of Shibden Park. Race against others to solve mysteries to win the treasure. Followed by a delicious picnic.

Fridays

Bowling Group
Join the Peaky Blinders every Friday from 11am onwards at Electric Bowl, Halifax, for a game or two of traditional tenpin bowling For more information please contact the office

Walking Group
This month the Walkie Talkies are heading to Shelf. The walk will take place on Tuesday 30 June. We will meet at the main entrance to the bus station at 9.40am ready to get the bus at 9.50am. For those driving to Shelf, we will meet at Shelf Hall Park at 10.15am.

We will then enjoy a circular walk around the park and woods. Please be aware that this is a strenuous walk including a stile and steps. Whilst there will be volunteers available to support, this walk will be physically challenging. Good footwear is advisable. We will pre-order sandwiches from the Bottomleys Arms for lunch, ready to catch the bus back to Halifax at 2.40pm. If you would like to join us on this walk, please ring the office to book your place and preorder your sandwich.

Inbetweeners
The next gathering of the Inbetweeners will be on Thursday 25th June at 6pm. We are going to have an inhouse session this month with all the fun and games of a Race Night!

Come along to name your own horse, place a “bet” and have some fun. Don’t worry, we will provide betting buttons so your losses won’t be too great! We look forward to seeing you there.

Summer Trip: Blackpool
Dont forget to book your place on our summer trip to Blackpool. Taking place on Thursday 16 July, this is a summer adventure not to be missed. Blackpool is a seaside resort on the Irish Sea Coast of England. Its known for Blackpool Pleasure Beach, an old school amusement park with vintage wooden roller coasters. Another landmark is the Blackpool Tower. Built in 1894, the Tower houses a circus, a glass viewing platform and the Tower Ballroom, where dancers twirl to the music of the Wurlitzer organ.

Whether you want to relax on the beach, stroll down the promenade, explore the pier or entertain yourself with the countless amusements, Blackpool has something for everyone. There is a charge of £25 per person. This is non-refundable and must be paid to secure your place. Please note this charge is to cover the cost of the coach. To book your place, please contact the office on 01422 352383 before Friday 26th June.

Anniversary Event
This year the Anniversary Event will take place on Friday 26 June th from 10am to 2pm. There will be a number of our suppliers with stalls on the day to offer you demonstrations of all the latest daily living aids and equipment.

Partner organisations here on the day will include the sensory team who will be available to chat about any concerns you may have in relation to your sight loss. They will also be able to discuss the best way to access support.

The Low Vision Clinic will be on hand to talk about all the services they have on offer and again, provide information of the best way to contact them.

We are also delighted to announce that Josh Dean, son of Nigel Dean (late trustee and member) will be joining us to unveil our new defibrillator, which was purchased with funds raised by Josh and friends last year when they completed the Fax to Filey cycle ride. We will have refreshments available, including a homemade cake stall.

Upcoming Fundraising Events
As we are sure you are aware, Sight Support Calderdale is an independent charity. As such we are completely reliant on donations, legacies and fundraising to keep our essential services going.

We have a number of fundraising events coming up:
Saturday 13 June: Halifax Gala. This event features charity stalls, a lively Bazaar of independent traders, food concessions, family rides, and an outdoor arena showcasing local performers. While the weather can sometimes affect the schedule, there’s always plenty to enjoy.

Saturday 20 June: Bucket collection at Westgate Market. Come along and listen to the amazing sounds of swing, jazz, jive and rock ‘n’ roll as Jump, Jive and Wail bring fun to Halifax.

Saturday 27 June: Brighouse Gala. A big selection of charity stall with lots of fun and games. Some independent businesses are also joining the gala. There will be a variety of local vendor food stalls available in our food court this year.

Saturday 4 July: Shelf Gala. Shelf Gala aims to provide a range of fun for all ages. Our main arena provides a variety of entertainment from bands, live music, dance acts for you to enjoy each year.
