Take a Seat – Why More Places To Sit Are A Good Idea

The Take a Seat initiative by the Centre for Ageing Better aims to tackle a wide range of issues from accessibility to social connection and health – one seat at a time, for the benefit of everyone, but particularly people with disabilities and older people.

These initiatives are designed to be flexible and tailored to local needs, which means they look different across the country; from more than 40 outdoor benches installed in Barnsley, 60 indoor premises signed up in Nottingham and six Chesterfield-style chairs in Bournemouth town centre – there’s no single ‘right’ way to approach this initiative.

In their guide, you’ll find ideas, examples, and resources drawn from existing initiatives across the UK to help you plan and implement your own Take a Seat project. Read this short guide and Centre for Ageing Better’s full case study on Nottingham’s Take a Seat initiative. Below is a short video looking at the initiative.
