April 2026

Mondays

Coffee and Chat
This group takes place from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Brighouse Rest Centre. There is no need to book, you can just turn up to this informal setting for a coffee and chat as well as the opportunity to enjoy games and activities. There is a £2 per person charge.

Wednesdays

The Breakfast Group
This group runs from 10am to 12noon at 7 Southgate, Halifax HX1 1DL. If you wish you can join us before 10.30am to order a breakfast sandwich before joining the group of the week at 11am. There is a charge of £5 for this. Alternatively, you can join us at 11am to enjoy the week’s session. Details of the different sessions are below.

1st April: Technology Clinic.
The Technology Clinic runs from 10am to 12noon. Slots of 15 to 30 mins are available to book 15 or 30 mins. Luke can offer 1-1 support tailored to whatever you need. Whether you need help with a specific technology problem, need help with accessibility settings or want to explore alternative solutions we will do our best to help.

8th April: Companion Group.
This is a peer support group for friends/family or carers of people with a Visual Impairment. Come along to have a chat with others in a similar role. This week we welcome Lucie Cragie from Vita Health. Please join us to meet Lucie and find out more about the services Vita Health have on offer to support you in your caring role.

15th April: Guide Dog Group.
This is a group for past, present and future guide dog owners to get together and discuss the highs and lows of guide dog ownership.

22nd April: Focus Group.
This month we are focusing on Retinitus Pigmentosa. Damian will be discussing his own personal experiences of living with the condition and sharing hints and tips that he has found useful.

Knit and Natter
No matter what your skill level, you are welcome to bring along your latest knitting or crochet project to this group. Taking place within our social engagement cafe, you can enjoy a nice hot drink and a natter.

Coffee and Chat
This group runs every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm at our centre. Whether you enjoy a game of bingo, like the challenge of a quiz or fancy a catch up with some friendly faces this is the group for you. There is a charge of £2 per person.

EnergEyes
This is a weekly fitness group that will focus on core strength, stretching and balance. The group will take place at Queens Sports Club, Moorlands View, HX1 2XQ for an hour from 1.30pm. There is a £5 charge per person to join the group. Please contact the office for more information and to book your place.

Thursdays

SocialEyes
This group is all about experiences and trying something different. Based at our centre, the group runs every Thursday from 10.30am to 2pm. Details of the upcoming April sessions follow. Please note that booking is essential for this group and there is a £10 per person charge.

2 April: Spring Flowers
Spring is in the air! This session will help you bring the delights of nature into your home as you create your very own beautiful plant decoration.

9th April: Grand National!
Come along for a lively session inspired by the Grand National. Featuring all the excitement and fun of race day but from the sanctuary of our centre. The bets are on!

16th April: Getting to Know You!
This is a great chance to connect with others, share experiences and learn new things. There will be lots of different activities so come along and have some fun!

23rd April: St. George’s Day.
Lets go back in history to a time of knights and dragons. This session will have a little bit of magic for everyone to enjoy. There may even be a special prize for those who come dressed in red and white.

30th April: Foraging Fun!

Fridays

Bowling Group
Join the Peaky Blinders every Friday from 11am onwards at Electric Bowl, Halifax, for a game or two of traditional tenpin bowling. For more information, please contact the office.

Walking Group
This month the Walkie Talkies are heading to Brighouse to enjoy a relaxing stroll along the canal to Cromwell Bottom and back. This is an easy accessibility walk with a few steps up and down bridges along the way. The route is approximately 3 miles. We will be catching the bus from Halifax to Brighouse and so will meet at the main entrance
to the bus station at 10am. After all that walking, we will need a treat so lunch will be at the Golden Hind Fish Restaurant in Brighouse. To reserve your place and discuss any support needs, please contact the office on 01422 352383.

Inbetweeners
The next gathering of the Inbetweeners will be on Thursday 23rd April at 6pm. Hopefully, we will be lucky enough to have decent weather by the time Inbetweeners comes along but even if we don’t, the lighter nights are a good excuse to get out and enjoy ourselves for longer. This month we will be having a trip to one, or maybe two of the local bars. Please ring and let us know if you wish to join us. All over 18’s welcome

Foot Clinic
The Foot Clinic with Philippa from PS Footcare, will take place on Wednesday 29th April from 10am to 3pm. Appointments are 30mins long and services include basic nail trimming, paring of calluses, corn removal, ingrowing toe nail cutting, reduction of nail thickness and any advice appropriate to meet our needs. There is a charge of £35. Please contact the office to book your slot. Home visits are also available.

pEYEoneer’s
Don’t forget you can come along to our centre every Monday and Friday and treat yourself to one of Di’s famous pies. For just £6 you will get a pie with mushy peas or beans and a hot drink. Gravy and mint sauce are also on offer. Its worth every penny!

Low Vision Roadshow
On Friday 11th April we will be attending the Low Vision Roadshow at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary from 11am to 3pm. The event will showcase services available to anyone impacted by a visual impairment. We hope to see you there!

LEO Group
On Thursday 16 April we will be going to The Beefeater on the Plaza. If anyone with a sight loss would like to join us either by themselves or with a friend or family member, please contact Angela on 07791134362 or email localeatingout@outlook.com for more information.
