Sight Support Calderdale – What’s On November 2025

Mondays

Coffee and Chat
This group takes place from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Brighouse Rest Centre. There is no need to book, you can just turn up to this informal setting for a coffee and chat as well as the opportunity to enjoy games and activities. There is a £2 per person charge.

Wednesdays

The Breakfast Group
This group runs from 10am to 12noon at 7 Southgate, Halifax HX1 1DL. If you wish you can join us before 10.30am to order a breakfast sandwich before joining the group of the week at 11am. There is a charge of £5 for this. Alternatively, you can join us at 11am to enjoy the week’s session. Details of the different sessions are below.

  • 12th November- Companion Group. This is a peer support group for friends/family or carers of people with a Visual Impairment. Come along to have a chat with others in a similar role, share experiences and receive support.
  • 19th November- Guide Dog Group. This is a group for past, present and future guide dog owners to get together and discuss the highs and lows of guide dog ownership.
  • 26th November – Focus Group. Each month we use this session to focus on different eye conditions. This month we welcome the staff from the Low Vision Clinic who will be discussing the services they have on offer.

Wednesdays

Knit and Natter
No matter what your skill level, you are welcome to bring along your latest knitting or crochet project to this group. Taking place within our social engagement cafe, you can enjoy a nice hot drink and a natter.

Coffee and Chat
This group runs every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm at our centre. Whether you enjoy a game of bingo, like the challenge of a quiz or fancy a catch up with some friendly faces this is the group for you. There is a charge of £2 per person.

Thursdays

SocialEyes
This group is all about experiences and trying something different. Based at our centre, the group runs every Thursday from 10.30am to 2pm. Details of the upcoming October sessions follow. Please note that booking is essential for this group and there is a £10 per person charge.

13th November: From Pudsey with Love: A Festive Shop at M&S.
This week will be a lovely trip out to Marks and Spencer’s at Pudsey. Following a train journey and a short walk to the superstore, you will have plenty of free time to browse the aisles that are bound to be full of delicious goodies and exotic gifts. As they say: This is isn’t just shopping, this is Marks and Spencer’s shopping!

20th November: Wooden Wonderland: A Christmas Crafting Session
Today we will be diving into the creative world of wooden Christmas ornaments. This is a session where you can design your own keepsakes, with each ornament becoming a canvas for your Christmas spirit. Join us for some early festive sparkle.

27th November: Festive Touches at Gordon Riggs
With Christmas just around the corner, we thought we would make this week’s sessions a festive visit to one of Calderdale’s best loved garden centres. Delight in the stunning decorations, select beautiful handmade gifts or find yourself a perfect poinsettia on this seasonal trip.

Inbetweeners.
This group meets on the 4th Thursday of every month. This month we will meet at 6pm at the centre and then round of the year of wild adventures with a trip to Spice Delight.

Fridays

Bowling Group
Join the Peaky Blinders every Friday from 11am onwards at Electric Bowl, Halifax, for a game or two of traditional tenpin bowling. For more information, please contact the office.

Foot Clinic
On the last Wednesday of every month from 10am to 3pm we welcome PS Footcare. This month the date for the clinic is 26th November. Appointments are 30mins long and services include basic nail trimming, paring of calluses, corn removal, ingrowing toe nail cutting, reduction of nail thickness and any advice appropriate to meet our needs. There is a charge of £35. Please contact the office to book your slot. Home visits are also available.

Esme’s Umbrella Information Day
Monday 24th November from 10am to 2pm we welcome Esme’s Umbrella and partner organisations. This day will involve showcasing “ASPECTUM” a documentary featuring lived experience of Charles Bonnet Syndrome. Along with talks from experts and those with lived experience, Judith Potts, founder of the charity, has shared a video to mark the 10th anniversary of Esme’s Umbrella. Refreshments will be available.

Christmas Fair
Our Christmas Fair will be taking place on Saturday 22nd November from 10am to 2pm. Stalls, including Taylormade, Morefunthanworking, Sea Glass and Crafty Frog, will be bursting with unique gifts and handmade crafts, perfect for picking up some early Christmas gifts. Father Christmas will be making a welcome return to the grotto, so bring along your children and grandchildren to experience a personal visit which includes a small gift. There will also be a mouthwatering selection of handmade cakes, cookies and baked goods to accompany a well deserved tasty hot drink. Our legendary raffle will be drawn on the day. Raffle tickets are now on sale for £1 each so don’t miss out on your chance to be a lucky winner. Spread the word , bring your friends and family, everyone is welcome!

White Rose Shopping Trip
There is still chance to book onto our White Rose Shopping Trip. This takes place on Thursday 4th December. We will be meeting at 10am at the coach park pick up point at the bottom of Woolshops car park, we will then continue on to a further pick up at Brighouse before arriving at the centre to shop until you drop.
This is the perfect opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done, treat yourself to some bargains or just have a wander and enjoy a spot of lunch with friends.
We will be setting off back home around 3pm. There will be a non-refundable charge of £20 per person for this trip. Please contact the office before Friday 14th November to reserve your place.

Christmas Meal
This year our Christmas Meal will take place on Tuesday 9th December. We will be meeting at 12.30pm at the Beef Eater, Halifax to enjoy a festive feast together.
You will be able to choose 2 courses from £20.95 or 3 courses from £24.95 off the festive menu that has a perfect selection of Christmas favourites and new creations.
To reserve your place, contact the office before Friday 21st November. A non refundable deposit of £15 per person is required. We will require a pre-order.
