West Yorkshire Police are warning that criminals are using fake payment confirmations and fake banking or wallet apps to trick individuals into believing money has been sent when it hasn’t.
How it works:-
- Scammers claim to have made a payment using a banking or payment app.
- They show fake payment screens from a fake SMS, or use a fraudulent app that displays a “successful payment”
Do not hand over goods before you have confirmed the funds have cleared into your own bank.
This scam is regularly used when selling things on-line. Remember, if the money is not in your account, the payment has not yet been made. Always check before releasing your goods.
