Mondays

Coffee and Chat
This group takes place from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Brighouse Rest Centre. There is no need to book, you can just turn up to this informal setting for a coffee and chat as well as the opportunity to enjoy games and activities. There is a £2 per person charge.

Tuesdays

New! NovelEyes
We are excited to announce the launch of NovelEyes, our amazing new book club. More details further on in the news bulletin.

Wednesdays

The Breakfast Group
This group runs from 10am to 12noon at 7 Southgate, Halifax HX1 1DL. If you wish you can join us before 10.30am to order a breakfast sandwich before joining the group of the week at 11am. There is a charge of £5 for this. Alternatively, you can join us at 11am to enjoy the week’s session. Details of the different sessions are below.

2nd September: Technology Clinic.
The Technology Clinic runs from 10am to 12noon. Slots of 15 to 30 mins are available to book. Luke can offer 1-1 support tailored to whatever you need. Whether you need help with a specific technology problem, need help with accessibility settings or want to explore alternative solutions we will do our best to help.

9th and 16th September: New! Craft and Create: MaterialEyes
Is getting crafty and creative a passion of yours? Do you miss having the opportunity to use your skills to make something unique with your hands? If so join us on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10.30am to 12.30pm, where you can be supported in your hobby, make new friends and learn new skills. Coming up in September is the opportunity to try:
– Stone decorating/pebbles
– Stone people pictures
– Decorating lets get cosy (getting ready for Autumn)
To support the group we are asking for a £5 contribution. For more information, please contact the office and ask for Tina.

23rd September: Focus Group
This month we have Kathy Bland from the Rehabilitation Team coming along to discuss the services the Sensory Team provide, give more information about the drop in session at our centre and answer any questions.

EnergEyes
This is a weekly fitness group that will focus on core strength, stretching and balance. The group will take place at Queens Sports Club, Moorlands View, HX1 2XQ for an hour from 1.30pm. There is a £5 charge per person to join the group. Please contact the office for more information and to book your place.

Coffee and Chat
This group runs every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm at our centre. Whether you enjoy a game of bingo, like the challenge of a quiz or fancy a catch up with some friendly faces this is the group for you. There is a charge of £2 per person.

Thursdays

SocialEyes
This group is all about experiences and trying something different. Based at our centre, the group runs every Thursday from 10.30am to 2pm. Details of the upcoming September
sessions follow. Please note that booking is essential for this group and there is a £10 per person charge.

3rd September: A day at the Beach
Today we are bringing the seaside to you as we celebrate Britain’s favourite holiday resorts with a fun filled virtual beach day.

10th September: Speaker Colin Stout
We are delighted to welcome Colin Stout, former Mayor of Halifax, who will be speaking to the group about his experiences in office. Colin will share insights into the role of Mayor, including his responsibilities, the places he visited and the people he met during his time in the role.

17th September: Celebrating Italy
This session will be a fun and welcoming celebration of Italy. You will have the opportunity to learn a little about Italian culture, enjoy themed activities, get creative and spend time together in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

24th September: Carr Gate Garden Centre Trip
This week is a trip to the amazing Carr Gate Garden Centre in Wakefield. The store offers everything from plants and to compost to tools. Beyond greenery is a fantastic array of gifts, homeware and furniture. More details later.

Fridays

Bowling Group
Join the Peaky Blinders every Friday from 11am onwards at Electric Bowl, Halifax, for a game or two of traditional tenpin bowling. For more information, please contact the office.

Walking Group: Walkie Talkies
This month the Walkie Talkies are heading to Todmorden to sample the delights of the Upper Valley. This walk should be a steady one as we explore Centre Vale Park. We will be meet outside Marks and Spencers at 9.15am and head down to the train station to catch the 9.40am train to Todmorden. Lunch will be at the Hare and Hounds pub and we will pre order sandwiches for lunch. Following lunch we will head back to the train station to catch the 2.15pm train back to Halifax. Inbetweeners
This month’s Inbetweeners will take place on 24th September 6pm to 8pm. As we have been out and about a lot recently, this month’s group will be at the centre where we will be having a general knowledge quiz. If you fancy a night of challenge and fun come along and join us.

Sensory Team Drop In
We are pleased to announce that the Sensory Team, Visual Impairment and Hearing Impairment, will be offering a monthly drop in session. On the 2nd Tuesday of every month, from 10am to 1pm, Kathy Bland and Michelle Gerrard will be available to offer advice and support. For more information, please contact the office. There is no charge for these groups which usually last around an hour. We look forward to seeing you there.

Locality Groups: LocalEyes
Did you know that we have two Locality groups each month? These groups take place in Elland and Sowerby Bridge and are for anyone living with sight loss who would like to
develop stronger social networks with others in the local community. It is also an opportunity for those who are not able to come along to the centre to meet peers and find out about all the services we offer.

Join Damian on the 1st Monday of every month at the Barley Box in Elland from 11am for a coffee and a chat. Alternatively, Damian will be at the Moorings in Sowerby Bridge on the 3rd Monday of every month from 11am. There is no charge for these groups which usually last around an hour. We look forward toseeing you there.

LEO Group

Book Group: NovelEyes
Are you a fan of audio books and looking to join a friendly group to share your thoughts and opinions on your latest listen? We are excited to announce the launch of NovelEyes, our amazing new monthly clubs starting this October. Each month we will get together at our centre at 7 Southgate, providing a friendly atmosphere to discuss the audiobook we have been listening to. We will explore the characters, plot and the story line along with sharing our favourite moments of the book and how well it was narrated. Whether you are an audiobook enthusiast or simply fancy trying something new, everyone is welcome. Its a great opportunity to sit down with a hot drink and biscuit, discover new stories and meet new people. If you are unable to make the meeting in person but still want to participate, we provide a zoom link so you can join virtually. There will be a £5 charge for this group as it will include a light lunch, hot drinks and refreshments. The first meeting will be held at 11am to 1pm on Tuesday 6th October. Future meetings will be on the first Tuesday of the month. Carr Gate Garden Centre Trip
On Thursday 24th September we will be having a trip to the amazing Carr Gate Garden Centre, Wakefield. This store offers everything from plants to compost to tools. Beyond greenery is a fantastic array of gifts, homeware and furniture. This is a great opportunity to stock up on bulbs, discover new ideas and plants for your garden and browse the shelves, exploring the range of gifts and trinkets. Within the centre is the Gardener’s Retreat Restaurant featuring iconic fish and chips and the much sought after carvery. The centre is accessible to all with its single level layout. Pick up will be from Wade Street, Halifax at 10.30am and we will return at 3pm. There is a non refundable charge of £15 per person to secure your place. This charge covers the cost of transport only.
