Deaf Ex Mainstreamers (DEX)

Deaf Ex Mainstreamers (DEX) are a West Yorkshire based charity set up to support deaf children and young people to have better access to education.

In the Calderdale area, they facilitate the Calderdale Youth Hub. This is a fortnightly group for deaf young people aged 11-17 to meet, enjoy different acitvities, and make new friends.

Across West Yorkshire they deliver the DEX Deaf Youth Council – a group of deaf young people aged 17-30 who meet regularly and keep in touch via WhatsApp and social media. This is a great opportunity to socialise with other deaf young people. They offer regular training opportunities as well as arranging trips to visit new places.

They offer 1:1 advocacy to deaf young people, and can support with issues including health, benefits, employment, education and more. People can self-refer or they can accept referrals from professionals.

Due to the current Covid-19 global pandemic, they are sharing Covid-19 information in plain English and BSL videos. Please follow they social media accounts or keep checking their website for updates.
