Pavement Parking – Your Say

Disability Partnership Calderdale is gathering information on the problems caused by pavement parking. We will be sharing this with Calderdale Council, with the aim to helping them to develop effective strategies to reduce the problem.

Why Is Pavement Parking a Problem?

Evidence from a recent Transport Committee report shows that pavement parking has a detrimental effect on people’s lives, particularly those with physical disabilities and sight loss. If a vehicle is parked on the pavement, disabled people have to take dangerous measures by walking or riding in the road.

For those with visual impairments, they could accidentally knock or crash into a car parked on the pavement, or have to turn back and find another way. Many disabled people avoid going out at all due to being afraid or not being able to access pavements, which can lead to loneliness.

Have Your Say on Pavement Parking

We’d like to hear your reports of pavement parking and the problems it has caused you, as a person with a disability. All submissions will be treated as confidential and your contact details will not be shared with any other organisation.

We’d like to know the following (though all are optional):

  • Where did the problem occur? (please provide a grid reference, postcode, town/village & street name or written description)
  • When did it happen? (date and time of day)
  • How did it affect you? (for example, did you have to walk in the road, choose another route etc)
  • Is this a regular problem? (i.e. does it happen daily, or was it a one-off)
  • What is the nature of your disability?
  • What are your age and gender?
  • Feel free to add more detail if you want to, including photos or videos.
