Transcript: Winter Fuel Payment 2023/2024. This video has audio and subtitles. Winter Fuel Payment is paid every year to households with older people, to help them with their heating bills during winter. You can get a payment if you were born before 25 September 1957, and lived in the UK during the qualifying week. The qualifying week starts on Monday 18 September 2023. If you live abroad in an eligible country, you may be entitled to get a payment. This depends on your circumstances. A Winter Fuel Payment is either £200 or £300 per household. You will get the higher amount of £300 if you are 80 years of age or over. Households will also get an additional Pensioner Cost of Living Payment at the same time. This is £300. You will get a letter in October or November, explaining what the total amount is and how it will be paid. Your automatic payment will go into the same account as your State Pension or other benefits. Payments will be made from November 2023 to January 2024. Most people will not have to make a claim. You only need to make a claim: • if you have never had a Winter Fuel Payment before • you do not get State Pension or certain benefits • you just moved abroad. If needed, a claim must be made before 31 March 2024. If you do not get a letter or an automatic payment by 26 January 2024, contact us by email or phone after this date.
