Calderdale Council are holding a Disbaility Pride month event. Here’s what they have to say about it:
Bring your own lunch and enjoy the lively and informal ‘positive about disability’ networking session. Hear from others as they share their lived experiences, meet and network with local organisations and allies from across Calderdale. We want to explore what you think is important and talk about the big questions. Accessibility. Ageing well. And whether you prefer ABBA or Elton John!
Disability is often described as the forgotten element in diversity work. But around 20% of people in Calderdale a have a disability.
- Do you feel comfortable talking about disability?
- What is it like to have a visible or invisible disability?
- What does disability pride look like?
On Tuesday 25th July, to mark Disability Pride month, the Calderdale Council Staff Disability Forum are encouraging a conversation to talk about these questions and more.
Councillor Danielle Durrans will be sharing her lived experience of living with visible and invisible disabilities. Councillor Durrans has 17.7 thousand followers on her TikTok (@parenting_life_etc) which she uses as a platform to share her story and experiences.
Local organisations will also be at the event to share some of the work they do.
