Calderdale Council have a really useful page on their website looking at money, benefits and financial support.

Dealing with money related matters can be off-putting, but there is lots of support for you.

Below is the money, debts and benefits section:

Calderdale Services

  • If you need any help to pay Council Tax or get Housing Benefit, see: Benefits. We also have a Local Welfare Assistance scheme.
  • Customer First. Contact the council to request or apply for:
    • Council Tax reduction;
    • concessionary bus or train pass;
    • and disabled (blue badge) parking.
  • Citizens Advice Calderdale. Help and support with benefits, debt and money and to claim Universal Credit. They also have a budget tool, visit: Work out your budget.
  • Noah’s Ark Centre. Money advice service for clients with a range of money and debt problems. They offer support on budgeting, debt relief orders, debt management plans and individual voluntary arrangements.
  • Calderdale DART (On Facebook). Advice and information for disabled people and their carers.
    • Help with forms to apply for for benefits, such as:
      • Disability Living Allowance;
      • Personal Independence Payment;
      • Attendance Allowance;
      • Universal Credit;
      • Housing Benefit
      • and Council Tax Benefit.
    • This can be done by phone, email, letter and in the office (by appointment only).
  • Healthy Minds Welfare Rights Service. A free and confidential service that offers support and help, which includes:
    • Check what benefits you are entitled to.
    • Help with benefit forms.
    • Advice about (or representation at) benefits tribunals.
  • DWP. Here they explain how to claim Universal Credit.
  • Calderdale Credit Union. For advice on saving money, how to get a loan or help to budget.

National services

  • Moneysavingexpert.com. Here you can download a free mental health guide as well as free money saving tips and resources..
  • StepChange Debt Charity. Free, confidential and expert debt advice/money guidance. They will:
    • Let you know what the best solution or service is that meets your needs.
    • Support you while you deal with money worries, for as long as you need.
  • Turn to us. Use their free Benefits Calculator and Grants Search tools to check what you maybe able to claim/apply for.
  • National Debtline. Free and confidential debt advice service run by the Money Advice Trust.
  • The Money Advice Service. These keep a list of online, phone and face-to-face debt advice services.
  • Stop Loan Sharks. Investigates and prosecutes illegal money lenders and supports borrowers in the UK.
  • Get help with gambling (Citizen’s Advice).
