Improving disabled people’s access to essential assistive technology

Assistive technology, from physical devices to computerised technology, has proven to enrich disabled people’s lives, but accessing these products can be difficult. Disabled racing driver Billy Monger embarks on 140-mile challenge for Comic Relief

Billy Monger, a professional car racer and double leg amputee, is going to walk, cycle and kayak 140-miles in four days to raise money for Comic Relief. The 21-year-old from Charlwood, Surrey, had both legs amputated following a car crash in 2017. Starting 22nd February, Billy will tackle huge distances on foot, take to freezing open waters by kayak, and endure day-long stretches on a bike, finishing at the world-famous race circuit, Brands Hatch, in Kent. Find our more…

European Space Agency launches search for a disabled astronaut

The European Space Agency is looking to recruit a new astronaut with a disability as part of its plans to make the agency more inclusive and diverse. It hopes to recruit individuals with certain physical disabilities as well as those who are female, from different backgrounds and/or ethnicities. Using the International Paralympic Committee list of disability categories, it has developed a list of eligible impairments. Read the full story…
