Could You Become a Health Services Engagement Champion?

Become a Voice for your Community

VAC, in partnership with Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), offers free training for local people to become Engagement Champions and help people who are seldom heard to have a say when changes to health services are proposed.

The NHS has a duty to involve local communities when health changes are being considered and the training provides the knowledge and skills needed to carry out engagement and consultation work on behalf of the NHS locally.  Because your role as Engagement Champions would be to support the members of your group to engage on changes to local health provision, it is important you have an interest in health issues.

The training is spread over 4 online sessions and dates and times are detailed below.  The training provides an understanding of how the NHS works and why the NHS is required to involve local communities in changes to services.  It covers methods and approaches to engagement and consultation which can be useful skills for your own personal development and benefit your organisation.  You will complete a task asking service users to complete a questionnaire and learn about equalities and safeguarding.

The benefits of training as an Engagement Champion are:

-being offered opportunities to carry out surveys or run focus groups

-being able to earn money for your organisation for each survey completed

-being invited to local events where you can meet with the people and organisations involved in shaping local health services.

The next Engagement Champions training runs on the following dates:

Session 1: Tuesday 26th January 2021

Session 2: Tuesday 2nd February 2021

Session 3: Tuesday 9th February 2021

Session 4: Tuesday 23rd March 2021

All sessions run from 10am- 12 noon.

Please contact Jayne O’Connell at jayne.o’ or phone 07799748440 if you would like to take part in the training or would like to know more.
