British Polio Fellowship Newsletter

Here’s the latest newsletter of the British Polio Fellowship – it’s a good insight into their work and the services they can offer – visit their website here: https://www.britishpolio.org.uk

Dear Member,

I would like to start by wishing everyone a happy new year and I hope we can all turn the page on last year and look up to better things. All staff are now back working after the Christmas break but please remember we have limited office access so please try and contact us by email in the first instance. I wanted to take the chance to update you on a few things as we roll into 2021.

Covid-19 Vaccines
Since our last update, the UK government has now approved the use of two more Covid-19 vaccinations. We have now updated our information accordingly and this can still be found on our website at https://www.britishpolio.org.uk/covid-19-vaccination-information. Please remember if you are unsure or concerned about anything to consult with your health care practitioner.

2021 Membership Subs
If you haven’t paid already your 2021 membership subs are now due. This is the same as previous years with single membership costing £30 and family membership costing £45. You can pay this by either cheque, direct debit, bank transfer or over the phone. Further information can be found in any copy of the bulletin. I want to thank everyone of you for enabling us to keep going by supporting the membership fee and cannot stress how important it is to our continued survival after a challenging year.

Raffle and Christmas Cards
We have now drawn and contacted all winners of our winter raffle, congratulations to those who won and a big thank you to everyone who took part making it another successful year of fundraising. A full list of winners will published in the next issue of the bulletin. Christmas cards also had a great response thank you to everyone who purchased them. We still have some stock left over so please get in contact if you are interested in purchasing any early for next year.

Rotary’s Birthday – Purple4Polio Tea Party
Rotary Club UK will be hosting a Zoom on the 23rd February at 16:00 to celebrate, inform and inspire about their work in eradicating. I shall be attending to talk alongside many other fabulous guests.
‘Working across the world, with global partners, Rotary has led the fight to rid the world of polio. Join us on our polio journey, sit back in the comfort of your home and enjoy a free online celebration of the truly amazing and lifesaving achievements so far with short stories from young and not so young, snapshots of polio activities, tributes, music and lots more.’

Online Shopping
Now we are all facing another lockdown many of us will have reverted back to online shopping in some form. Be sure to be using giveasyoulive.com or smile.amazon.co.uk to raise us vital funds whilst you shop. They work very simply by donating a percentage of what you spend and the majority of online retailers can be found on there. Amazon smile is the same concept but specifically by amazon for when you shop on amazon. Just be sure to select the Fellowship as your chosen charity and shop.

Asics 10K
Last year we held spots for charity runners in the London Asics 10K, unfortunately due to the global pandemic this event was cancelled. It has now been rescheduled for this year and we are looking for participants to walk jog or run their way whilst supporting the Fellowship. If you or someone you know would like to take part please contact Matthew at matthew@britishpolio.org.uk

Wishing you all the best.
Yours in Fellowship

Kripen Dhrona
Operations Director

PLEASE NOTE
Most of us at the Fellowship Central Office are now working from home with maybe one or two of us going in to the office each day. This means that on most days there is only one person answering the phones, who will take messages and pass on to the relevant team member.
As we are not all in the same room, we cannot say when someone may call you back, but we will try our best to get back to you as soon as we can.
(It may be from their home phone lines – so you may not recognise the telephone number if you have caller display).  Alternatively, please email us – details below:
