Priority groups are to benefit from “rapid” turnaround tests this week after a new pilot was started by the government.
The lateral flow test involves a handheld kit that gives a result in about 20 minutes, without the need for a lab.
Fluid from a nasal swab or saliva goes on one end, then a marking appears if you are positive.
Each region will receive 10,000 of the tests which are to be used with “priority groups” in their community.
The areas to benefit from the new tests are:
- East Riding of Yorkshire
- Kingston upon Hull
The government said the proactive testing of people who aren’t showing symptoms will help slow the spread of the virus locally.
