New service connects neurodivergent people in Calderdale

People in Calderdale who are neurodivergent may become increasingly isolated and vulnerable during the current Covid-19 crisis. In response to this a new service has been launched. Keeping Neurodivergent People Connected aims to support local autistic and other neurodivergent people during the pandemic by keeping them more connected with support services and each other.

Keeping Neurodivergent People Connected is delivered in Calderdale by The Society 4 Neurodiversity (S4Nd) and Cloverleaf Advocacy in partnership with West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership and Inclusion North. The service is available to anyone aged over 18 who is autistic or who has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Tourette’s or any other form of neurological difference, diagnosed or self-identified. It’s also available to people with learning disabilities.

To identify and support as many local neurodivergent people as possible, specialist staff will be reaching out to people not already known to services or accessing support. They will offer the opportunity to discuss Covid-19, talk through any worries and find out about local resources and sources of advice. People’s safety will be assessed, and they will be offered access to other local services, if appropriate. The service runs seven days a week from 9 am to 10pm until 12 July 2020.

What people are saying “Keeping Neurodivergent People Connected has been helping me keep in touch with real people during the lockdown. Until Angie met up with me – at a safe distance – I had not spoken to another human face to face for a couple of months, other than in shops. it really did make a huge difference, as my depression was going into overdrive at that point. thank you, Angie, and S4Nd”
