The Great Get Together will go ahead this year on 19-21 June, albeit in a somewhat different way! Whilst there won’t be any public gatherings or large events, organisers are encouraging people to reach out across the weekend with acts of compassion and connection. They are encouraging people to get involved in a safe way and do something that fosters connection and celebrates the #powerofcommunity. We have lots of examples of how people can get involved on their website and in this short video.
Here’s the most recent press release from the organisers:
Local plans across Batley and Spen
There are many ways in which people can take part in our Great Get Together activities across our region. We are developing a More In Common assembly in collaboration with a number of local headteachers for schools to deliver on Friday 19th June. On Saturday 20 June, our regular Community Service event goes virtual and we have a community quiz to follow. We will share details of how to watch and take part in these, and many other events organised by our friends in the community, on our social media channels.
Join in the Run for Jo
On Sunday 21 June we are encouraging everyone across the country to take part in the Run for Jo by doing a 2.5km or 6.5km run in their community. You can join hundreds of people training for the run on this Strava running community. We would love to see your pictures of training and the run, so please do share them.
Share with us
· We are asking everyone to get involved and tell us what they will be doing, however small, by registering their activity on our website. It really helps us to see how everyone is taking part.
· It would be great to see your images of activity on social media across the weekend so we are asking people to post online and share using #powerofcommunity and #greatgettogether
· We are collating messages of thanks, thoughts, hopes and prayers to be displayed in a montage so we are asking people to send us their messages electronically. It would be great to receive messages from your team, service users and partners to batleyandspen@jocoxfoundation.org
