New Local History Films

Local History tasters

Whilst working from home, Sarah, from Calderdale Libraries’ Local Studies & Information Services team, is making some short local history films. The first film is an introduction to Chartism in Calderdale. Chartism was a mass working class movement in the 1830s and 1840s which called for increased voting rights.

The second film is a zoom interview with three of the Midgley Pace Egg Players, talking about the history of the Pace Egg Play, traditionally performed on Good Friday across Calderdale.

Sarah is currently working on another short film about the Plug Riots of 1842 and there may be more to follow.
