Halifax Society for the Blind – Update

This has just arrived from our friend Pete Hoey at Halifax Society For The Blind

We have had to move from a face-to-face service, to one done over the phone, but will answer calls between 9am and 4pm, on 01422 352383. We can emailed at info@halifaxblindsociety.org.uk

The services we can continue to provide for people with sight loss include:-

  • Sight specific information and other sources of sight support
  • Home delivery of sight aids and equipment (we will pay up front for small items)
  • Referral to talking book and talking newspaper services
  • Phone-chat – a strictly telephone befriending service (let us know if you’re interested in volunteering)
  • Information about online activities, such as audio exercises, chat groups, or quizzes
  • Information about special supermarket opening times, and milk delivery services
  • Finding out contact details of organisations that can help in the current crisis
  • Coordination with other services – where a person with sight loss is in a crisis

Customers are particularly reminded of the importance of social distancing at this time. If you need to go out, we strongly recommend that you take your white stick with you, so that people can walk around you – rather than you having to face the risk and anxiety of trying to navigate safely around others. If you need a white stick, please contact us.
