NHS Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is responsible for planning and buying healthcare services for the local population. They want to consult you on their plans to change GP services by closing a number of key surgeries in Calderdale.
In 2008 the Department of Health wanted to create more GP practices in areas where they were needed. In Calderdale Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) contracts were used to create Meadow Dale Group Practice and Park & Calder Community Practice. APMS contracts have the same clinical and quality standards as other GP contracts but they are different because they are run by commercial organisations, are short-term and are more expensive.
The CCG’s Plan
The CCG won’t renew the APMS contracts again and have not found anyone else to deliver GP services through a regular contract. Their APMS contracts will come to an end in March 2020 and the following practices will close:
- Meadow Dale Group Practice (Delivered by Virgin Care LLP ) in Ovenden, Elland and Sowerby Bridge.
- Park & Calder Community Practice (Delivered by Locala CIC ) in central Halifax and Todmorden.
This means registered patients will be affected by these plans. The CCG will make sure you can continue to access GP services by registering you with another practice. The CCG is planning something called a “locally managed dispersal”. This is when they register patients with a different GP practice based on your postcode. This means everyone will have a GP and you don’t have to do anything yourself. The CCG will register you and tell you which is your new GP practice.

The CCG want to understand the impact the plan may have on you and your family and they have asked everyone affected to complete their survey. The closing date for the survey is 5pm on Friday 6th December 2019.
